Group-based Nutrition Education Classes

Over 20 single-session, Zoom-delivered nutrition classes. Class topics include Reducing Added Sugars, Mediterranean Diet, Mindless Eating, Healthy Habits, and Figuring Out Fats.

Duration

30 minute sessions.

Any Michigan Medicine patient can register for a class by calling 734-615-0444.

Cost

A nutrition visit with a registered dietitian is a covered service for over 90% of patients with insurance. Co-pays may be charged. Those without insurance may not have to pay out-of-pocket.


Individualized Nutrition Counseling

One-on-one consultation(s) with a registered dietician to provide individualized advice based on patients’ health conditions and goals. Most visits are available remotely, by video or phone.

Duration

30-60 minutes.

A physician’s referral may be required by insurance.

Low Carb Journey

This self-directed program teaches patients how to follow a very low-carbohydrate meal plan (less than 50 grams of carbs/day).  Includes brief educational videos and links to online resources, and weekly self-report of weight and carbohydrate intake.

Duration

16 weeks in duration with indefinite access to program content through MyUofMHealth mobile app or patient portal.

Eligibility

Patients must have access to the MyUofMHealth mobile app or patient portal. Referral by a clinician is required.

No cost.


Very Low Calorie Program

This weight management program begins with an intensive, very low calorie 3-month diet that includes meal replacement, followed by a transition to a personalized diet for sustainable health. The program consists of frequent dietitian visits and periodic physician visits. In addition to the structure, accountability, medical nutrition therapy, and behavioral recommendations provided, the addition of a weight control medication may be considered, if needed.

Duration

2 years plus optional follow-up.

Eligibility

Have a BMI of 30 or more; Covered by BCBSM, Blue Care Network, HAP, and Priority Health. 

Cost

Co-pays, prescription medications, and meal replacements.
